This week, just in time for the season, we take you into the Burton snowboard factory. A few steps above the surfboard factory we brought you a few weeks ago, but… still one helluva lot of inventory lying around.

At least burton produces quite close to its market in burlington vt. and hopefully takes advantage of that to build closer to demand. Most skis and snowboards are built in asia and its obvious that ski/snowboard companies produce a ton of inventory at the beginning of the season and ship it all out to retail outlets hoping it will sell. Whatever doesn’t gets closed out at the end of the season at almost half of what it sold for at the beginning of the season.

So many precision operations to do by hand… I bet they can reduce the probability of errors, and maybe save time, by hiring a good engineering consultant.
