I’ve been working on a long term project to compile information on lean government, and recently came across an interesting series of web pages at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)… all on lean.
This site has a relatively thorough description of the underlying concepts and framework of lean, including 5S, TPM, and general waste reduction. This is then followed with several pages describing how lean can impact the environment, some case studies, and actual EPA activities supporting lean. Specific contacts for more information are given.
As the site points out, there is a direct correlation and and obvious symbiosis between lean activities and the EPA’s goals to prevent pollution and minimize waste.

Why does this count as lean government rather than leaning-on-other-people government?

Touche! And good point!
By the way, I checked out your blog… some good stuff. I’ll review prior to the next Carnival.
