I'm sure the warning is too late, and as we speak St Peter is completely overwhelmed with the urgency of applying the Theory of Constraints to the pearly gates. Look for the throughput into heaven to increase exponentially – good news for all of us.
Dr Eliyahu "Eli" Goldratt passed away quietly at his home in Israel last Saturday, and we are all the much better off for his having lived, and all the worse for his passing. Goldratt was stubborn, arrogant, opinionated ….and brilliant, passionate, and absolutely committed to improving work everywhere through the application of his brainchild – the Theory of Constraints.
The impact he had on business, in general, and manufacturing, in particular, is unmeasurable. The Goal is mandatory reading for everyone involved in business in any capacity. The contribution his application of money to the flow aspects of the TOC had an enormous impact on lean accounting. he was was an extraordinary man who had the clarity of thought to devise one of the most elegantly simple, and powerful, ideas in the entire history of work.
He has earned his rest and a special place in heaven, and he will be sorely missed.

This book was mandatory reading when I graduated the Materials Management program in 2003. I remember a girl I was seeing in college had the idea to give me a book to read and I would give her a book to read. I made her read The Goal. Maybe that’s why it didn’t work out?
Either way, I learn something everytime I read that book.
RIP Dr Goldratt!
